When we last left the group…
- Hershel made it through his post impromptu amputation even though Maggie was practically digging his grave while Beth fashioned some new pants for her father.
- The surviving prisoners were whittled down to 2. A sizable fella and a narcotics fan with Doc Holiday ‘stache were left to their own devices after Rick went Shawshank crazy and plowed his machete through Tomas’ head and fed a fleeing prisoner to some walkers.
-Carl wasn’t in the house in his cell and cleaned out the infirmary. Lori was super pissed…again…with his unauthorized solo mission for medical supplies.
- Carol is preparing for the birth of “Little Shane” by playing Operation on a lady zombie. What’s even creepier than seeing zombie panties? The fact that someone was watching her from the woods!

A helicopter carrying 3 armed men from a military branch flies through the sky. Some “turbulence” that bears an uncanny similar sound to a few well aimed gunshots brings the airborne machine down. Two of the men don’t survive the crash and the pilot is not in good shape.
Andrea and Michonne watch as smoke rises from the crash site. The blonde formerly under the rule of Rick is still sick with some sort of flu-type ailment. They stumble to the site with Michonne’s pets in tow carrying their bags. Before they can get a good look at the crash site, a car pulls up with some men as the Governor finally makes his official debut. The ladies hide and watch as he plunges a knife into the skulls of the deceased soldiers. Remember, Andrea wasn’t present for Rick’s admission at the end of last season – they are all already infected.
As the Gov. and his crew go through the site and pull out the surviving pilot, a walker passes them ANdrea and Michonne and heads to the crash site. The Governor’s cronies take out a few more walkers and Michonne’s pets start to pull at their chains, moan that raspy walker moan and lunge toward the crash site. Michonne slices their heads off without thought in hopes they can remain hidden. It’s futile. Andrea’s “old pal” Merle finds them, takes their weapons and Andrea passes out. She starts to come to in the vehicle bringing them into the walls of the town. A blurry scene of guarded walls made of tires and fencing follow the image of a corpse hanging in a tree.
Andrea gets medical care from a tight-lipped doctor who prefers to let “him” be the one to tell them where they are. Merle enters for what turns out to be a brief interrogation. Michonne wisely remains silent as Andrea recalls the story of getting separated from the group and a rundown of the casualty list that includes her sister. Merle seems sorry to hear about Amy’s death stating that she was a “good kid” after hearing that she hasn’t seen his brother, Daryl, in about 7 months. Merle seems to have calmed…you know from his racism hurling redneck ways. He still blames Rick for locking him on the roof in Atlanta even after Andrea insists he went back to find him. Merle turns his attention toward Michonne and gets nothing but a dirty look. Andrea steps in with an awkward “thank you” before he relents and lets the Governor take over.
They demand to be freed and site watching him stab the dead soldiers. He seems intrigued with the fact that they don’t know that they are already infected. He explains that they will “turn” as soon as they die no matter how they die.He is somewhat cold and to the point, but offers them freedom in the morning as they don’t like to open the gates as the doors to the makeshift hospital opens and he welcomes them to Woodbury. With the night blanketing the town, it looks empty. However, their host insists that everything is peachy during the day. He is soon offering a room with running water, food and a bed.
In the morning Michonne, who we are still in the meet and greet stage with in the audience new cast member relationship, looks like someone urinated in her Wheaties. I want to like her, but we no nothing about her other than her implied awesomeness thanks to saving Andrea and wielding a sword. She and Andrea walk through the town with a woman who is selling the town and the Governor like prime real estate. A total of 73 people are “protected” by the walls and rules built under the Governor’s command. There is a curfew that goes into effect at nightfall.
We get a brief look behind the Governor’s facade. He is promising the wounded pilot that he will find the rest of his team that managed to survive an outbreak. It’s a bit overkill as he is practically stroking the pilot’s hair while fishing information from him. I am with Michonne – I don’t trust him and there is something creepy about the guy. He leaves the pilot to go visit some sort of makeshift lab run by a timid scientist. A brief squabble between the timid scientist and Merle is halted with ease as the Gov. enters. Merle backs down with his tail between his legs as the man running the show doesn’t even need to raise his voice to put him in his place. The Gov. seems very interested in Andrea and where she came from. He seems to have particular interest in Daryl who he asks about by name. (Not sure why this sticks out to me, but it does.) He sends the Dixon brother back to patrolling the walls before he starts asking the scientist about Michonne’s “pets” whose bodies are on the his dissection table.
Here we learn a few things about walkers…According to the timid scientist, Michonne has cut off the jaw and arms so they can’t eat and this means they eventually don’t have the bloodthirst to eat. They become “docile” and provide a cloak. The Governor lights up at this and you can see he is thrilled with the idea of a “repellent” for walkers. As for the question I think we have all asked…does a walker starve? If you believe the Governor’s town geek, yes the do – but at a much slower rate than your normal human. There is also an odd mention of The Gov.’s fondness for the scientist’s tea making abilities. Hmmm….
The following morning Gov. makes breakfast for Andrea and Michonne. Andrea is still giddy with the idea of a functional town while Michonne still looks 6 kinds of pissed off. She eyes her sword and gun that are oddly placed on the Governor’s bookshelf. Andrea questions the “secret” of how Woodbury is possible in this new world order. He simply replies “big walls” with an attempt at a charming smile. He takes a sip of tea that I am sure the scientist whipped up and then continues with a tangent about rising again and “taking back” what is theirs. A guard interrupts their brunch and the scientist takes the moment to try and penetrate Michonne’s icy wall. He gets no where when asking about her pets and then asks Andrea if she likes the tea. WHAT IS IN THIS TEA????
The Governor has another whispered convo with one of his henchmen and returns to the table. Michonne has had enough and demands her weapons back. He, once again, assures them they can leave but urges them to take some time to look into the town. The women leave for a walk and Andrea protests leaving and wants to stay and check things out for another day. She tries to get more personality background on Michonne but gets shut down when she strays into the topic of her pets.
The Governor keeps his word and finds the rest of the dying pilot’s team. He drives up waving a white flag and promising the surviving military men he will take them to their friend. That is a promise he won’t keep. He pulls out a pistol and takes out one soldier before his henchmen take out the rest of the men from the surrounding woods. The Gov. and his crew take the supplies, weapons and trucks back to Woodbury. He feeds the town some BS and claims “biters” had gotten to the band of brothers before he did. He practically pets them all on the head before reminding them of curfew and sending them off to bed.
Andrea tries to inquire about his real name. He prefers to remain nameless and refuses to give that piece of information out. Instead he goes back to his lair where a woman is asleep in a bed. He retires to what appears to be an empty room sans a plush chair and corner filled with some mysterious battery/jumper cable looking paraphernalia. Then we are shown what has the Governor’s full attention. A wall full of tanks that are filled with walking floater heads including Michonne’s pets and the pilot’s wounded and now severed head.
