Doctors warn about medical tests, treatments you don't need Feb 22nd 2013, 11:35 You don't need an MRI for lower back pain. You don't need antibiotics for a sinus infection. And you don't need to be screened for osteoporosis, either, if you're under 65. Seventeen of the top medical specialty groups, representing pediatricians, ear, nose and throat specialists, family doctors and others released their latest list of common tests, treatments and procedures that people don't need. Some can do harm, like unnecessary antibiotics. Others are simply helping to drive up medical costs.

Teachers ditch student desk chairs for yoga balls Feb 22nd 2013, 11:24 Robbi Giuliano thinks ditching students' desk chairs in favor of yoga balls is one of the best decisions she ever made in 11 years of teaching. Replacing stationary seats with inflatable bouncers has raised productivity in her fifth-graders at Westtown-Thornbury Elementary School, helping students focus on lessons while improving their balance and core strength, she said. "I have more attentive children," Giuliano said. "I'm able to get a lot done with them because they're sitting on yoga balls."

Hold the fries: We're eating less fast food, study says Feb 22nd 2013, 11:27 Americans' love affair with fast food may be far from over, but there are signs we may be cutting down on French fries, greasy burgers and other artery-clogging food, according to a new study. A survey released on Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that, on average, adults consumed about 11.3 percent of their daily calorie intake from fast food in the 2007-2010 period – a drop from 12.8 percent in 2003-2006. The CDC noted that more frequent fast-food consumption is associated with higher energy and fat intake and lower intake of healthful nutrients.

The five semifinalists chosen were Kree Harrison, 22, from Nashville, TN; Amber Holcomb, 18, from Houston, TX; Adriana Latonio, 17, from Anchorage, AK; Angela Miller, 18, from Beverly, MA; and Tenna Torres, 28, from Queens, NY. They look and sound immensely complicated, but lucky for us they are being broken down into easier step by step instructions. Sometimes they might sound they are speaking a different language and I am only able to pick out words like: fried, hot, rice or meatball. Luckily Michael Voltaggio has remade Brooke's dish that nabbed her the first spot in the finale. Oh, ok…I'd watch the man knit for an hour, but the recipe is just an added bonus. The chicken and quail concoction involves the obvious proteins and carrot juice. Kale and fried chicken skin mix together in a good versus evil kinda way. To that, onions and mushrooms join the party. It looks amazing! Back in Mystic Falls, Caroline and Tyler found that their attempt to translate the code on the Hunter's Sword was futile without help from Klaus, who had his own reasons for solving the puzzle. 'Last Chance Kitchen' #TopChef Finale – VIDEOS Feb 21st 2013, 21:43 Part 1 of the season 10 finale of ‘Top Chef’ Seattle left Sheldon and Brooke to face off against each other. After ‘Last Chance Kitchen‘ was introduced, they were prepared for a 3rd competitor to show up. Josh had a “lot of fire” in his belly after missing the birth of hid daughter only to be eliminated before the finale. Lizzie was a likeable sweetheart and seemed to be a dark horse in the competition and then there was the extremely talented Kristen who was slaying every chef to walk the the ‘Last Chance Kitchen’ doors. Josh was prepared to face Kristen. It was no surprise and he knew she meant culinary business. Enter Lizzie and CJ. She won the #SaveAChef program by 67% of the vote! She was adorable as she apologized to CJ for his loss. He smiled and bowed out gracefully with his 7 in a row win on LCK. So the 3 battled it out in Tom’s kitchen at Craft. The challenge…make a great plate of food. It’s so diverse and open to interpretation that it is probably one of the most difficult challenges. Josh picks a venison dish while Lizzie goes for cod. Kristen whips up an orecchiette. (It’s sort of a homemade pasta that looks like tiny bowls.) Tom tastes each and praises them for their 30 minute wonders. Josh undercooked his meat. He is chopped first. Lizzie and Kristen are left to battle it out and Kristen is the given the win. "Diane Lane and Josh Brolin have decided to end their marriage," their reps confirmed in a statement. As a couple, the Hollywood pair has kept a low profile. However, Brolin was in the spotlight in January after police found him heavily intoxicated and unable to care for himself on a Santa Monica sidewalk. Brolin, 45, whose latest film is "Gangster Squad," and Lane, 48, star of "Cinema Verite" and "Under the Tuscan Sun," married in 2004. They have no children together.

Shia LaBeouf Defends His Creative Differences (Photos) Feb 21st 2013, 18:43 Shia LaBeouf has abruptly departed Daniel Sullivan‘s upcoming production of Lyle Kessler’s Orphans due to “creative differences.” A source told The New York Times that Sullivan was worried about Shia’s “performance choices” and had several talks with Shia and the producers about this before he decided that the role should be recast. To explain his sudden exit, LaBeouf used his Twitter account to post a series of email exchanges between himself, Sullivan and co-star Alec Baldwin among them. The emails show that a conflict between LaBeouf and Baldwin may have been at the heart of the matter. Under the heading "creative differences," LaBeouf attached an email exchange between him and Sullivan. LaBeouf described to Sullivan what it is to be a man, writing, "He can apologize, even if sometimes it's just to put an end to the bickering." He added, "Alec, I'm sorry for my part of a dis-agreeable situation." In response, Sullivan wrote, "Alec is who he is. You are who you are. You two are incompatible. I should have known it … This one will haunt me. You tried to warn me. You said you were a different breed. I didn’t get it." If there was a tiff between the two actors, Baldwin appears to be holding no ill will. LaBeouf posted an email between them in which Baldwin wrote, " I’ve been through this before," adding, "I don't have an unkind word to say about you. You have my word." As heartfelt as Shia’s apology appeared to be, they weren’t his words. The entire refrain was lifted verbatim from Tom Chiarella’s “What Is a Man?,” which appeared in Esquire’s 2009 “How to Be a Man” issue.
