American Idol RECAP 01/17/13: Season 12 Episode 2 "Auditions #2" Jan 18th 2013, 00:38 American Idol returns tonight with the last part of its season 12 premiere. Idol's first premiere episode last night didn't do as well as expected. It looks like the 12th season is about to go down in history as an utter and complete failure. According to Variety magazine, Idol's 12th season was down by 18% in viewership figures – making this the lowest rated premiere in American Idol's history.
